Founder
Matt Sosnowsky, LCSW, MSW, MAPP is the Founder & Director of Philadelphia Talk Therapy
As a skilled and experienced therapist, I’ve built a reputation for providing high-quality therapy in Philadelphia that is both effective and deeply relational. My clients consistently share that they feel heard, supported, and empowered in our work together. I’m proud to have a strong track record of helping people achieve meaningful change, whether that means reducing anxiety, navigating life transitions, or simply feeling more grounded and connected.
My therapeutic relationships are built on trust, empathy, and consistency. Clients often reflect on the safety and ease they feel early on in our work, especially those new to therapy or feeling uncertain about the process. My style is warm and candid—but always rooted in sound clinical judgment and evidence-based approaches. The goal isn’t just to feel better in the moment; it’s to foster real, lasting progress.
What Others Are Saying
Clients describe the experience of working with me as supportive, direct, and grounded. Many share that they felt quickly at ease—even if they were skeptical about therapy. Fellow professionals often note my clinical insight and ability to connect with people in an authentic, meaningful way.
This consistent positive feedback shows up not only in conversations and referrals, but also in the written testimonials featured on my website. Across platforms like Google Reviews and Psychology Today, the praise echoes: I’m known as a thoughtful, effective therapist who helps clients feel comfortable and truly seen.
Education & Professional Background
I bring a unique blend of clinical expertise and real-world experience to my practice. Before becoming a therapist, I worked in finance and later helped develop digital mental health tools at Happify. This diverse background gives me a grounded, practical lens I bring to every session.
In addition to nearly 15 years as a psychotherapist, my credentials include:
B.S. in Finance, Penn State University, 2002
Master of Applied Positive Psychology (MAPP), University of Pennsylvania, 2010
Master of Clinical Social Work (MSW), University of Pennsylvania, 2012
Postgraduate certificate from the National Group Psychotherapy Institute at the Washington School of Psychiatry
Former Director of Clinical Intelligence at Twill Health (formerly Happify), where I helped translate psychological research into accessible digital interventions
Media Recognition & Thought Leadership
My work has been featured across respected media platforms, including The New York Times, Self, VeryWell Mind, MSN, ASCAP, and Huff Post. I’ve also been invited to speak on The Behavioral Corner podcast and was honored when Philadelphia Talk Therapy received the Gold award for Best Mental Health Services in the Philadelphia Inquirer’s 2024 Philly Favorites.
This visibility reflects my commitment to making mental health care more accessible, relatable, and impactful—not just in the therapy room, but in everyday life. Further, I pride myself on my roots in the Philadelphia community, where I live with my wife and daughter.
Let’s Talk
Finding the right therapist is deeply personal. That’s why I offer free 25–30 minute video consultations. These informal meetings give us a chance to talk, get a feel for each other’s style, and ensure there’s a good fit—no pressure, no expectations. It’s a small step that often makes a big difference in helping clients feel more confident about beginning therapy.
